About me

Welcome! I'm an abolitionist currently working within the system, a mostly lapsed playwright, a joyful fundraiser, facilitator, and enabler. Let's make some trouble together.

Facilitation and events

Facilitating is the best. I've led workshops in the performing arts for youth in foster care, creative writing classes for women incarcerated at the King County Jail, and parenting support groups for both queer and straight parents. My coworkers can tell you, I love running a meeting.

On the event side, I've planned fundraisers for 30-600 people, including galas, luncheons, virtual benefits, and a host of smaller events. I love sorting out the story an event is looking to tell and creating cohesive messaging true to an org's values.

Fundraising

After ten years of fundraising, I'm down with the ask. Y'all, there is nothing better than helping a good cause do good work in a way that centers community. (Well, maybe the end of capitalism. See above re: working within the system.)

Do you work for a small nonprofit or mutual aid project? Are you looking to develop or expand your fundraising? Reach out! I try to give away a couple hours of my time a month - especially to abolitionist orgs looking to develop capacity.

Creating

I'm a mostly lapsed playwright, occasional poet, and lover of creative nonfiction. Mostly, I live by Roque Dalton's words, that poetry - like bread - is for everyone.

What we create is all around us. Our homes, our gardens, our clothes, our make-up; it's all art and what a joy that is. Last year, I was lucky enough to take a workshop with Maria Gaspar through the Henry Art Museum. She said a lot of brilliant stuff, but the words I keep on my fridge: "Creativity and play are what will get us to abolition."

So let's play until we can imagine a better world. And then let's fight like hell for it.

Projects

Garden

Leaves hang down in front of camera, shading two metal chairs on a handmade stone patio. Sun shines against leaves, highlighting a wild garden with a mossy stone brick path.Yellow forsythia blooms over a crowded garden. A metal bird bath sits towards the right. A bulbous metal bird bath stands amongst plants.

Other Art

Several vases of arranged flowers sit on a window sill and kitchen table. The flowers on the sill are in bright light while those on the kitchen table are in shadow. A hand with chipped lavender nails holds up a shrinky dink goldfish holding a sign that reads, "AS BRIGHTNESS INTO BRIGHTNESS".Collage made with old comic books, including some ignorant depictions of incarcerated villans. A small encaustic work reflects the light. It is abstract and filled with color.
